We are pleased to share with you the details of our next exhibition MATERIAL WORLD which welcomes 34 new, emerging and resident artists specialising in textiles and fibre arts.
This show promises to be a delight with a wonderful variety of ingenious craftsmanship on display ranging from contemporary embroidery to weaving, mixed media, quilting, knitting, needle felting and more.
The Farley Arts Trust draws inspiration from the artistic legacy created at Farleys House by Roland Penrose and Lee Miller. Many of the most significant Surrealist and Modernist artists, poets and writers of the 20th century, including Paul Eluard, Max Ernst, Joan Miro, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso and Man Ray spent time with them at their Sussex home.
The Trust aims to extend an understanding and appreciation of this unique artistic legacy of one of the most momentous periods in our recent cultural history through a programme of arts and educational projects. Over nearly 20 years this has included exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, awards and bursaries designed principally to engage young people and local communities.
These activities are made possible through support from charitable trusts, local societies, governments grants, sponsorship from companies and the expertise and voluntary work of Trustees. In recent years crucial funding has included grants from The Chalk Cliff Trust and The Band Trust.
he Trust is most grateful for the continuing and invaluable support it receives from the staff of Farleys House and Galleries.
