Composing, writing, painting, drawing–any sort of creative work–is generally done alone. Lockdown has provided more time alone than I have ever known, maybe too much, or more than was good for me. At times, I just quit, walked off, and thought about Marilyn Monroe or the day the war ended. The characters in my pictures are loners, isolated people who miss the company they once had.
I used to mutter: “Hold on, hold on.” And I still do, but it’s a little muted nowadays.
