This September we are opening the gallery up in a variety of ways during the Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture (6th – 20th September). As a community art gallery we strongly believe that art is for all and with that in mind, we are welcoming our local community to join us, get creative and view some beautiful work from our talented local artists.
All events on the 6th, 13th and 20th September are free. The Hailsham Festival Children’s Art Competition Exhibition sponsored by Lightning Fibre will be displayed in one of our downstairs rooms between 6th – 20th September with an awards ceremony held from 2pm- 3pm. Our Sculpture exhibition ‘Of Substance’ opens on the 6th September with a private view from 4pm. Artists, their friends and families, and the local community are invited to attend both events – all free.
ARTY OPEN MORNINGS: 10am – 1pm (except 6th Sept when it is 10am to 12pm)
Join us on the 6th, 13th and 20th September for some carnival mask-making, paper lantern and flag creating to celebrate the Hailsham Festival. Open to all ages – children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Free, but donations are welcome. Please be aware that space will be limited and if we are full at any point we may have to ask you to come back. Limited accessibility for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS AT GALLERY NORTH

In this structured workshop, Andy will guide participants through the fascinating world of acrylics, showcasing their versatility and unique characteristics. The session will begin with a brief introduction to Andy’s background in acrylic painting, followed by an overview of essential materials and techniques.
Participants will witness live demonstrations on colour mixing, blending, glazing, and creating textures. Then, it’s time to unleash creativity!
Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop is designed to inspire and equip you with valuable techniques to enhance your artistic journey.

YARN BASKETRY ART WORKSHOP

Using a variety of wool and recycled fibres, you will learn the absorbing and useful craft of yarn basketry. Carol will suggest materials that can be repurposed and share her techniques for adding enrichment, to make some beautiful creations. This is a great workshop for people who enjoy colour and textiles, and can be learnt from age 7 upwards. During this 3 hour workshop we will make a mat and small basket. Materials (and fun!) are included. No previous experience necessary.
